Using jQuery Mobile to "Touch-afy" your Drupal site
UPDATE: Slides and materials available here http://coldfrontlabs.ca/news/jquery-mobile-presentation-resources-drupal...
jQuery Mobile is a great new framework to build touch friendly web applications. Using HTML5 markup you can almost instantly show your site in a touch friendly fashion.
Both the library and the accompanying Drupal modules are still in a pre-release state which means there's lots of fun with bugs and unique quirks but is still very usable in some production environments. I'll cover what needs to be done to avoid these problems and get your site running in no time.
We'll cover:
- Integrating the jQuery Mobile library
- How to enable a mobile layout / theme using various modules
- Configuring different layouts for mobile phones vs tablets
- Rethinking content creation and user interaction for touch devices
- Caveats when using jQuery Mobile
Having a solid understanding of installing Drupal modules, a general knowledge of HTML5 markup and a little javascript would be best before attending this session.
There will also be some code samples for people to take away from the session to help them get started with jQuery Mobile. And we'll keep a good amount of time for questions and examples to show off what the library can do.
