Development-Staging-Production Development Workflow: Advanced techniques
As you use a dev-stage-prod workflow to develop your sites, you'll realize that the devil is often in the details. Some pitfalls to avoid and techniques to increase the quality of your features.
To get the most of this session you should be familiar with the material presented in Development-Staging-Production Development Workflow: An introduction and the dCycle project website.
This session will explore some pitfalls and advanced techniques of development stage production workflow:
- what to do with items that cannot be exported to Features.
- An approach to creating generic Image presets for generic features.
- why and how you should use hook_update_n() in your features
- why and how you should use hook_requirements() in your features
- how to use Simpletest in your features.
- tying this in with Agile
Important:
- The technique presented does not involve content staging, which is a separate issue.
- The presentation will be in Drupal 7, although it all works with Drupal 6 as well.
- The language of the presentation has not been determined yet, but will probably be either English or bilingual English-French.
